๐ช How to make Grinch Cake Pops

- In a large bowl, add the crumbled cake and frosting. Mix together until the cake becomes like firm batter.
- Scoop and shape cake mixture into 1-ยฝโ cake balls. Set aside.
- Melt the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl as per the package instructions. Heat 30 seconds at a time until fully melted.
- Dip the lollipop stick into the melted green chocolate about a half inch. Then stick into the cake ball. Repeat for all the cake balls. Allow cake pops to set for at least 1 hour before dipping, giving them time to firm up and keep their shape.
- To coat the cake ball with the melted candy coating, Take the first cake pops to receive their sticks and dip them into the melted chocolate until fully coated. Place upright in a cake pop holder or foam base to allow the chocolate to harden.
- Add a dab of melted chocolate to the back of the red candy heart and place offset from the top of the cake pop.
๐ฅ Equipment
Large bowl
Small cookie scoop
2 cup liquid measuring cup
Cake pop wrappers and lollipop sticks: you may find these along with the candy melts and red candy hearts in your local craft stores or online.
๐ฅซStorage
Refrigerate: Store in an airtight container up to 5 days.
Freezer: store in individual bags in a container in the freezer up to 3 months.
๐ Variations
- Try different flavors. I used a boxed red velvet cake mix for my cake pops, but you can use any of your favorite flavors!
- If desired, once the cake pop sticks have been placed in the chocolate cake balls, you can freeze the cake balls and dip later.
- Skip the lollipop stick and make grinch cake balls instead!
๐ญ Tips
- Don't dip frozen or refrigerated cake pops into melted chocolate. The cake pops need to be room temperature to allow the melted candy coating to stick to the pop. A frozen cake pop may seize the chocolate causing you to have issues with coating the cake pop.
- If you need to thin the chocolate candy melts out some, use a little bit of coconut oil or vegetable oil to make it smooth.
- โParent tip, take one with you to Starbucks and โorderโ a cake pop for the kids while you get your mid-afternoon fuel!
