Hot Chocolate Toppers are a great treat that is a fun way to serve with a cup of hot chocolate. Large, flat marshmallows are dipped in a chocolate peppermint flavored candy coating and topped with crushed peppermint or holiday sprinkles.

    ❤️ Why you'll love it

Stocking stuffer ideas: Hot cocoa marshmallow mug toppers make great gifts, stack some inside of a hot chocolate mug, wrap in gift bags and tie with a bow.

Hot chocolate bar: these are great to keep in stock at your hot cocoa bar.

Festive and fun: decorated homemade marshmallows topper is a fun way to offer up a warm cup of cocoa during the holiday season.

Campfire marshmallows: I LOVE these square jumbo marshmallows. They are built for a s'more, but are perfect for making a hot chocolate marshmallow topper!

Chocolate almond bark: this melts super smooth and is perfect for dipping. You can also use white almond bark.

Peppermint candy canes: I buy the candy canes and just crush them myself.

    🔪 Instructions

    1. Place candy canes in a ziploc bag. Using a mallet, gently crush candy into smaller pieces.
    2. Place 4 large squares of candy melt in a microwave safe bowl and heat on high for 60 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir.
    3. Microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until chocolate is smooth.
    4. Once chocolate is smooth, add peppermint extract and stir until incorporated.
    5. Dip one half of the marshmallow in chocolate; place the chocolate side up on a parchment paper lined sheet pan.
    6. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint bits while chocolate is still wet. Repeat with marshmallows and chocolate.
    7. Store in an airtight container.

    🥄 Equipment

    Microwave safe mixing bowl

    Wooden spoon

    Ziploc bags

Meat mallet (to crush the peppermint)

    🥫Storage

Room temperature: store hot cocoa toppers in an airtight container up to 2 months

    📖 Variations

    • Substitute delicious dark chocolate chips in place of the chocolate melts. Follow the instructions on the packaging for directions on how to melt.
    • Cut the marshmallows with star-shaped cookie cutters for Christmas or into heart shapes for Valentine’s day.

    💭 Pro Tip

    • If using a flavoring, be sure it is oil based. Anything not oil based may seize the chocolate.
