Mayonnaise, sour cream, and heavy cream form the base of the dressing recipe while fresh chives, dill, onion, and garlic add a punch of flavor. It is perfect for topping your favorite salads or to use as a veggie dip. And, it gives a huge punch of flavor to our favorite BLT Pasta Salad.
Homemade Dressings Are The Only Way To Go
I have found over the years that nothing can compare to homemade anything. Especially when it comes to salad dressings. The freshness of flavor that you get in homemade far outreaches the boring, preservative laden salad dressings on the store shelves.
Now that we are living in a time that makes things a little harder to do and things a little harder to buy, learning how to make a homemade recipe is the best thing you could do.
I am thankful I grew up with a Mom who made everything homemade. I am also lucky to still have my parents around to guide me as I continue to learn at the ripe old age of 56!
Homemade Salad Dressing is one of the easiest things to make from scratch, and this Ranch Dressing is by far everyone's favorite when it comes to dipping! We love to dip our Buffalo Chicken Pizza in this homemade ranch dressing as well as our Air Fryer Chicken Wings!
What You Need To Make Homemade Ranch Dressing
Mayonnaise. Sure, you can make your own, but honestly, mayonnaise is one thing I don't mess around with. Raw eggs in an uncooked recipe make me nervous. So I just buy my favorite mayo and go from there.
Sour Cream, I always go with full fat sour cream.
Heavy Cream adds a deeper depth of richness and flavor.
Fresh Dill, Chives, and Onions
Fresh Lemons
Whisk, I have had one similar to this one for 30 years, and it is a favorite!
Substitutions And Tips
- Taste the homemade ranch dressing before adding salt. The dressing on it's own may be salty enough for your taste.
- Substitute ¾ cup of buttermilk for the sour cream and heavy cream
- Substitute 2 teaspoons dried dill weed for the fresh dill
- Leave out the onions, or if you like the flavor but not the bite, add ½ teaspoon onion powder in place of onion
- Substitute ¼ teaspoon garlic powder for the fresh garlic
- Fresh squeezed lemon juice is best, but in a pinch, I have used bottled lemon juice.
