    🔪 Instructions

    To make the sauce

    1. In a small bowl add pepper jelly, cayenne powder, and red pepper flecks. Mix until ingredients are incorporated throughout and set aside.

    To cook the brussels sprouts

    1. Fill a medium pot halfway with water, add salt, and bring it to a boil. Add the Brussel sprouts to the pot of boiling water and parboil for 5 minutes.
    2. Strain and rinse the Brussels sprouts in cold water for 3 minutes or until cold enough to touch. Pat dry the and transfer them to a cutting board. Trim and cut Brussels in half.

    To serve the brussels sprouts

    🙋 Recipe FAQ's

Why is kosher salt used during the boiling process?

Kosher salt is less refined and preferred because doesn't contain additives. Sodium lowers the water content helping to provide a crispier bite during the air frying process.

Can I toss the Brussel sprouts in pepper jelly before air frying?

No, the jelly will burn into the Brussel sprouts causing the outside to blacken before the inside cooks.

Can I make this Brussel sprouts with bacon & pepper jelly recipe in the oven?

Absolutely, bake the Brussel sprouts at 400℉ on a baking sheet for 25 min.

    💭 Tips

    • Be sure to peel away any damaged and loose leaves on the Brussel sprouts before boiling.
    • Ensure the brussel leaves stay intact, keep Brussel sprouts whole during boiling.
    • Save prep time by using precooked bacon bits.

    📖 Variations

    • Omit the pepper jelly and add a tablespoon of honey, a teaspoon of olive oil, and chopped jalapeno for a recipe made without refined sugars.
    • For added spicy flavor, sprinkle a ½ - 1 teaspoon cayenne powder on the brussel sprouts during the air frying process.

    🍽 Equipment

    🏫 What I've Learned

Native to the Mediterranean region, Brussel Sprouts are part of the cabbage species. They receive their name from Brussels, Belgium where were popularized in the 13 century.

Brussel sprouts were introduced to the United States in Louisianna by French settlers in the 1800s. Once harvested Brussel sprouts keep in near-frozen temperatures for up to 5 weeks.
